First off we head for Santa Ana thinking of going to ruins at Tazumal...missed the get-off there(thot it would be more like a station for the size town but wrong). Then discovered bus goes right thru Chalchuapa where ruins are. Decided to wait and see once there, then going thru we decided more ruins didn't sound as attractive as a waterfall so we stayed on bus to Anuachapan. We're on the Flower Route, famous for blooms Dec-Feb...hmmm, just missed that one! A short bus hop to Juayua, Gastronomical Gourmet capital of El Salvador where they serve fantastic street food every weekend - kind of an upscale market for hungry folks! Very different & somewhat strange. Juayua Info
Found our way to Hotel Anahuoc
, first people we spoke to out of the bus knew exactly where we wanted to go...just 4 blocks away. The gal, Hisele(?) was very nice but there only was a private room avail for $25. Hmmmm. It seemed high but since we were staying 2 nites and she thot some were lvg from dorm we went w/ it. (Later, from what I can remember, the room did not become available and she sent us down the street to Casa Matasana
(?). While we waited for room we saw lots of traveling folks incl. 3 Americans...2 hiked the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea last year and also went down 500' in a sub dive just a week ago in Roatan! Had pics, really cool!Kokoda Trail InfoVisit Idabel, Underwater Trip of a Lifetime
They said they were spoiled by diving in PNG tho since it was soooo good there! These are young adults in 30s, one worked in commodities until last 2007/8 when he lost huge $$$$ while fishing in ...Peninsula and the melt down happened-got fired! Now working for ethanol company & trading corn futures for them. Another works for ConAgra & 3rd still in commodity trading. They apparantly earn big enuf bucks to travel/fly all over when on their 1-2 week vacations. Very interesting folks-2 gals & a guy.
We sign up for waterfall tour tomor AM, just $3 and we heard the guide takes you thru a coffee finca and tells about local flora & fauna.
Couple of Firsts:
--Ride in back of a pickup truck on the day trip to ruins.
--Police stops (2) in which all males (myself excluded) were required to exit bus for a thorough pat down and pack search, one time they did it TWICE!
