We had a thoroughly wonderful day in Green Valley visiting Joanne's cousin Pauline and husband Wayne. (They had driven up to our campsite the day before and we had just missed them).
We arrived about 10:30 a.m. and spent the entire day just visiting and catching up since our last visit. Many many stories since to share. Our biggest interest of course is our grandchildren, our 5 and their 2 with another due in June. After a beautiful lunch we all went for a long walk around the complex. As mentioned, they live in Kelowna but have rented a house in Green Valley, AZ for a 2 month break. We've made plans for dinner at our house as soon as we get home from this trip. They too will be home in early April.
Their complex overlooks the valley leading to Nogales, Mexico and the scenery is unbelievably beautiful. The views are almost breathtaking. At the pool area of the complex the permanent residents have built a safe home for a wild owl. The above photo shows the owl resting in its home.
We orginally had plans to all take a quick trip down to Nogales, Mexico but due to the dangerous gang activity in the area U.S. and Canadian residents have been advised not to visit that region of Mexico.
"Green Valley Arizona is the home of the Titan Misile Base which was very well known during the Cold War Crisis of the 1960's, the site has since been closed and reopened as a history museum. Unfortunately we did not have the time to visit. Green Valley is also home of the Sierrita (open pit)copper mine."
After a pleasant drive back to Tucson we broke with tradition and went out for dinner and enjoyed a delicious Carl's Jr. Burger with Chili Fries. It was our first dinner out since leaving home and we just felt we were due for a night without cooking.
Another update tomorrow.
Enjoy your day and enjoy these few photos of our visit to Green Valley, AZ.
til next time
Waine and Joanne
