Fritters from the festival

On the plane forever today, we finally arrived in Rome. Off the plane and then quickly through the airport to our connecting flight to Florence. A quick 40 minute flight and we were in Florence and ready to hit the road in our fancy Italian vehicles. It took a while to get the cars rented and a lot time for the navigational review to take place but finally we wer off on the A11 to the A1 and south to the villa. Dad had his GPS – it seems to have been quite beneficial especially getting around in the rural areas. Either that or we are just lucky! We had quite the convoy going. We arrived at the villa and checked in – what do you know Linda, Anita and Wendi had a room that was ready. Everyone put their suitcase in our room and we were off to the restaurant at the villa – Joanna was our waitress. Several interesting specials that day – wild boar stew, rabbit with pasta and spaghetti with tomatos and chili pepper saucce. After much changing of minds, the following dishes were ordered – eggplant parmesan, potato ravioli with meat sauce, the spaghetti special, wild boar stew and pasta with mushrooms. Lunch was great! The rest of the party checked into the room and then scouted out the trip to the train station. Drove by The Mall – who knew they had them in Italy. This one had Burberry, Gucci etc.. No shopping for us though as we only visited the ATM and were off looking for a market but none were open on Sundays. Then under Angie’s direction we went to the fritter festival in St. Donata. OMG – these were one of the best things I’ve ever had! They were rice fritters with a little little lemon flavor and a little powdered sugar. We brought three bags and devoured them!! I went to sleep – Alyse joined me shortly. The rest of the gang went to the bar and had one beer and another and just one more.
