Hi
I´m now at the most remote inhabited location on the planet, It is thousands of mile from anywhere.
Spent yesterday touring the island with a local guide. Never knew there was so many statues on the island and it was extremely interesting hearing how they were all quarried from the side of one mountain and then transported all over the island. Some are over 10 metres high and weight many tonnes. Each head and upper body represents a died tribal chief, who were also buried beneath them.
Managed to arrive on the island at the start of their festival fortnight, so there is entertainment, competitions & races all over the island. Most of the shows & races etc are designed to find and crown the Island Queen for the next 12 months. We had the opening ceramony last night with local dancing and music and tonight we´ve got the children from the local school putting on a show. Which should be good.
Just as well the festival is on, because apart from the heads there is nothing much else to do on the island, apart from sun bathe, which is where i´m off now
Talk Soon
