Me, Meredith and Claire in front of the Duomo in Milan!

A group of us before the AC Milan game!

Megan, Claire and I walking in the castle at Bellinzona

On Friday after class, a bunch of us took the train to Bellinzona, only about a 15-minute train ride away. In Bellinzona there are beautiful castles. We visited 1 out of the 3 castles there, Castelgrande, which was built around the 1st century. The town itself was gorgeous and then the castles were just astounding. We got to walk up to the top and got the best view of the town and the mountains. There was also a beautiful church that we got to see and take pictures of as well. It was a short trip, but definitely worth it!

On Saturday, 9 of us went to Milan for the night! We got up real early to take the train around 7:30 and we were off to Milano! The train ride took about an hour and a half because we had to switch trains. When we first got there we all went to go get something to eat and then walked around for a little bit and got to see the gorgeous streets of Milan. The buildings were all beautiful. We walked and saw the Leonardo statue, the famous square and the Duomo. The Duomo was amazing inside and out. The stained glass and the ceilings were just astoundingly beautiful. Then unfortunately we got separated from a few of the boys with us so it was an entertaining to see a lot of the rest of the group frustrated! I was taking full of advantage of us wandering around to take plenty of pictures and we went to ask for directions inside of this gorgeous hotel that I took a lot of pictures of on the inside. We wound up taking the metro and getting to our hostel. We were all so tired, we all hung out in the same room playing games until the others arrived.

After everyone had gotten there, we decided we needed somewhere to go out for the night! We met a guy from Australia that was also staying in the hostel, Tom. He decided to come out with us as well! We found a pub that was playing the InterMilan Futbol game, which was fun to see everyone going crazy for it. We stayed there for a little bit and then decided to go to a nightclub. We got to the nightclub and it was a lot of fun dancing with everyone and just having fun! One of the guys had too much fun and end up falling and chipping his tooth! Trying to get home was also an experience when you can’t remember the street your hostel was on! After taking one cab who was going to give us a run for our money, having a couple pull over and ask if we were OK in the busiest Milan intersection, we finally found the nicest cab driver ever who got us there and only charged us 5 euros!!

On Sunday, we all went to the AC Milan Futbol game which was so much fun. It was exciting to see an actual soccer game played in Europe and also seeing David Beckham was pretty nice too ☺ After the game, we went back to our hostel and got our stuff to go get on the train. When we got to the train station, we realized that the only available train ride was for 7 the next morning, so we bought those tickets for the 7 at night train and tried to pretend we were confused Americans, that didn’t last long. We thought we would be sleeping in the train station for the night. After Claire and I took a little nap in the train station, we got hungry and decided to go get some food. As we are in line, we get a call from another boy in our group saying that there is another train leaving to Lugano at another train station. So we ran to meet them, ran down to the metro and got tickets for another train going to Chiasso. We got on the train to Chiasso and finally were able to get back to Lugano! An eventful weekend to say the least and it was a great way to start out vacationing!!! Next weekend we are going to Interlaken, Switzerland for some night sledding!
