It was interesting to witness the sporting events going on in Kadina, this past Saturday.
The boys were playing Australian Rules Football "Footie", on the oval, while the girls played Netball, on the courts opposite the oval. Footie and Netball are the traditional winter sports in Australia.
On this day, the Kadina Bloodhounds hosted the Central York Cougars. Games started early in the day, with the youngest teams playing first, and progressed continually until the adults finished the day. The Bloodhounds and the Cougars were rep team clubs.
The "A's" would be the 1st team, "B's" the second, etc...
Karen was playing for Harvest, which is just a recreational, and not a rep team. Australia is a power-house in Netball. The game shares some similarities with basketball, but is a vastly different game. The following link my help your understanding of the game:

If you see the picture of the Kadina rep team, you can see the basket does not have a backboard. They players don't have #'s, rather letters identify positions played. Based on their position, players are restricted where they can go on the court. The uniforms are traditional as well.
Karen played well in her first game, but unfortunately Harvest lost to the Tek-rons, one of the rec leagues powerhouses.
Good luck next Saturday, Karen.
