We arrived in Zurich on January 8 at 8 am! We were in a daze after the 8-hour plane ride and we all looked very confused wandering to find the baggage claim. After we went through customs, we got on the bus and it was freezing with all the snow that had just fallen. After the long 3-hour bus ride into Lugano, we brought up all of our luggage to the room we would be staying in. The Villa, where we live, is beautiful, it was built in the Romantic period and is very antique looking. After we unpacked a little we went to lunch at the Villa’s “Grotto”. They had a full lunch made for us: salad, huge pieces of lasagna and pie. After lunch, we explored the town and went to the school where we will be taking classes. We were able to explore a little more later and then had a full dinner waiting for us; tons of food! At night, all of us went to the bar Peter Pan and basically took over the bar. They played American music and we were all up and dancing. It was a lot of fun to get to know all of the people on my trip!

On Saturday, we explored a little bit of the town and got a piece of pizza from the grocery store Migros. We walked around a little more, did some shopping and I was able to buy a phone over here! After that we explored the town over and walked by the Lake. Since Lugano is on a mountain, we have to walk up hills and stairs everywhere, which kills me! We trekked over to the town Paradiso! I was able to take a bunch of pictures in front of all the Paradiso signs, which were all a lot of fun. We went to dinner at the Spaghetti Store, which was a nice restaurant with good spaghetti! We then all went to a bar called Oops bar, which was more of a punk scene and had more locals then Peter Pan had.

On Sunday, everything closes for the day so we ended up having to go to McDonald’s to eat lunch! It’s definitely more expensive and it’s a nicer restaurant. It’s more of a nicer sit down place. Then we walked around and through a little park. We went to the train station to buy little groceries. Then we came back and played some cards and cooked some pasta for dinner. Classes start tomorrow!
