The Caribbean Ocean bordering Isla de Rosario

Taking in the sun

We marveled for a few days at the single nob in the shower of our bathroom in Cartagena. After a trip to Isla de Rosario--an island an hour boat ride from Cartagena--and a stay overnight at a much nicer hotel, our question was answered. Hot water is optional in Colombia--an amenity, something extra. Good to know.

Luckily our stay in Isla de Rosario had more than hot water--beautiful, blue water (unlike the sludgy brown waves lapping at Cartagena proper); beach chairs and towel service for sunning (I was able to perfect my tan during our two-day stay, just in time to return to mid-winter New York.); and giant iguanas and toucans playing in the trees. The two-day rest in Isla Rosario was a nice treat after our weeks of fast-paced travel.

But before New York, we´ve stopped in Bogota for our last two days. Just arrived and off to check out the old city, the emerald district (Anyone need a jewel?), a tasty restaurant and likely a few churches, since there is one on nearly every corner. Savoring these last few days!
