Texarkana USA where the slogan “Where Life is so large it takes Two States”
Why! Texarkana USA is really two cities located in the Northeast corner of Texas and the Southwest corner of Arkansas. Being twice as nice there are almost two of everything. Two City Governments, Two City Mayors, Two Police Departments and Two Fire Departments. This small town serves over 19 counties in four different states.
Who named Texarkana is up for debate, but the popular version credits Colonel Gus Knobel who surveyed this section on behalf of the railroad. The story goes that Colonel Knobel wrote “Tex-Ark-Ana on a board and nailed it to a tree and remarked this was the name of the the town which was going to be built there. The Colonel thought he was at or near the spot where the borders of three states met. So he named the city after these states. Texas, Arkansas and Louisana. Louisana actually was about 30 miles away. Also Oklahoma is just a hop skip and a jump from Texarkana.
We have visited this city several times and it is pretty neat to drive down State Line Road and see 2 different states at the same time. The Texas side is dry, no alcohol unless you are a member of club. The Texas Roadhouse, located on the Texas side is the Original Texas Roadhouse. This was told to me by the current manager of the eatery. If you want to drink you must join their local club. The cost of the club is a dollar.
