Mike and Lorraine's Trip to Sarasota travel blog

Snowy Start

Hi Everyone:

We're off and running. Not too fast at first. As we left our driveway this morning at 9:30, a few tiny flakes of snow were falling. It took us about two hours to reach Meriden, CT. We then got off the highway (91S) and took an alternate to avoid the accidents which had the highway at a standstill. We did this once again before leaving CT. By the time we reached NY, the snow stopped, then started again only for a bit in NJ. Traffic around Washington, DC was difficult, but with Mike at the helm and the GPS and me navigating, we did very well! The only raised voices were directed at idiot drivers zipping in and out of lanes--even in the snow, and the fools who follow a boat too closely. It rained on and off the rest of the way, but we arrived here in Petersburg, VA (south of Richmond) at about 9:45 p.m., after having a breakfast-for-dinner at Denny's. It's now 41 degrees--the high (for us) for the day.

We'll see how far we get tomorrow, but no more driving at night! Not very relaxing. No worries; we'll be in the sun and warm (somewhat) soon.

Take care,

Mike and Lorraine
