Poco's great adventure 2009 - 2010 travel blog

December 25, 2009

As we sit here in Candi dasa, Bali, Indonesia, it is hard to believe that Christmas is here.

We have already received via the internet a number of Christmas letters, and thought we would give the idea a try.

It is hard to believe that 9 months ago we left Hope to begin a journey that would take us to many places in the world. We have done our best to record our journey in our trip journal, but we would like to take this opportunity to share a few thoughts.

We do miss our family and friends that we have left behind, and perhaps have a greater appreciation for our relationship. The internet has been absolutely wonderful and has given us an opportunity to keep in touch with many of you. We are thankful and grateful for the people we have met along the road and know that we have made some new friends that we will meet with again.

This whole trip has been a learning curve, as we have learned about each other, the world and ourselves. It is as difficult for us as we are sure it would be for you to describe, what was the best thing about your year, or what was the greatest thing that you did. The easiest answer to that is that we had a dream, it became a plan and then it became reality. We may regret not doing this trip when we were younger and fitter and perhaps more able to do things physically, but we know we will have no regrets when we are in our 60’s. We will be able to look back and say, wasn’t it great that we took that trip in our 40’s. That is perhaps the biggest lesson that we have learned, if you really want to do something… do it. Find a way and make it happen.

We know that March will come soon enough and we will be back in Hope, and although we are not too eager for that to come too quickly, we are starting to get excited about seeing all our family and friends.

We do not normally make such a big deal out of Christmas, and often do not put up a tree, but we both agree that we do miss a little bit of the “hype” that is Christmas. There is a certain excitement and anticipation as well as craziness that goes along with it, and we do miss that.

Wherever you are, and however you spend the holiday season we hope that you find a few moments to be thankful for everything you have and appreciate the little things in life.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Cory and Elaine
