We arrived in Siem Reap, Cambodia on the 03/04/05. The flight was OK and despite flying completely by sight the pilot managed to get us to the right destination without any trouble! The town has a very cool atmosphere with a mix of trendy cafes, street vendors and French colonial influence.
The town is almost solely supported by the famous Angkor Wat which is only 5 minutes away. Therefore there are also a lot of rich tourists around that fly in and out for their 2 day taste of Cambodia and the ancient Angkor period. This in turn attracts all the land mine amputees and beggars from Cambodia. It is very sad to see the devastating effects of the genocidal war conducted by the Khmer Rouge. However, as anyone who has been here will tell you, the Cambodian people have an amazingly happy and care free spirit that is truly infectious.
