Journey to the middle of the World travel blog

Bogota November 27 – December 4

I was happy to get such an inexpensive flight from Orlando to Bogota, Colombia. Weeks ago I checked on the internet and the best price was with Jet Blue Airlines. Only 89 USD. Pretty good deal!

I arrived a few days ago where Adriana met me at the airport. This time the arrival seemed almost easy. Maybe in comparison to other countries, Colombia will seem tam e this time round. Since my last visit here in 2004, lots has changes. New construction projects has given way to new roads, modern apartment buildings and perhaps a new mentality for Bogota. Somehow it does not seem nearly as chaotic. Locals have also commented on how traffic has gotten better and how the city looks so much cleaner.

What happened? Well, as far as I can tell a public education campaign has worked wonders. The Sunday Cyclovia still is a successful event . A friend of mine also commented that the Federal government here is really pushing a strong environmental agenda. The Colombian people continue to be friendly and welcoming. Music, family and friends are the important things in life here. Compared to the USA or Canada, the people seem happy, despite obvious economic challenges. I believe that this “can do” attitude will help Colombia in the long run.

Currently, there is a tourism campaign for the country. The theme is “the only risk is wanting to stay”. I think Colombia is a hidden gem and certainly worthy of further exploration.
