We made it to Brookings, but not one of the best drives. The gusting wind was pretty bad and we really had to take it easy. The open road of course was pretty wild. Thank goodness most of the drive was amongst the massive trees.
The decision which RV park to choose was difficult. Ocean view or forest setting. Ocean view won out. We are both tired of feeling damp and nothing drying out and poor Carri is beginning to get that musty smell. Not sure in the end if ocean view was the best choice - but we survived another long rough night.
We were once again sleeping with all slideouts in. We were again up at 2a.m. I was doing my journal - couldn't sleep.
Bob suddenly felt this rush of cold air from the bathroom. After a few minutes of checking windows & vents, he figured out that the bathroom vent cover had vanished. It really gives you an idea of how strong the gusts were. All vents had been fastened down tightly. Not sure where or when, but it was gone. Did a bit of a cover up and then both said "well, at least it's not raining" Within 1/2 hr it was raining cats & dogs. Well Bobs inventive streak kicked in and picture number 1 is his prototype which worked reasonably well if we kept emptying it every 15 to 30 mins. Unfortunately I think we nodded of and suddenly the dam broke - it wouldn't hold the weight of all the water. Picture number 2 is the new and improved model and did work well - as long as the toilet bowl didn't fill up. Thank goodness the rain did abate by the afternoon. It had a funnel duct taped to the lower corner and dripped into the toilet bowl. I knew I married that man for a reason!!!!! Fortunately we were able to find an RV place that had a new vent cover. It is now ready for tonight.
I am finishing this off in the laundry trying to get all the towels dry that we used for mopping up. Bob just brought me a vanilla latte (I'm happy) and suggested we eat at a little Irish Pub here in town.( I agreed)
A gal at Starbucks said that the next 3 nights is going to be the "storm of the century" (her words). I hope she is wrong.
Heading into California tomorrow morning. (10 miles down the 101)
Hoping for a better night tonight.
