We took lots of pictures while walking through the canyon.
The first part of the catwalk is safe for wheelchairs and old...
Do my eyes deceive me? Does that look like a dragon?
For a little while, the canyon walls are high and imposing.
Did I say imposing?
Impressive? Awesome? We were totally impressed by the height of the rock...
We stopped along the way for a closer look at the rock...
When the canyon walls opened up, the trees made quite a display.
Not all waterfalls are magnificent.
Just a pretty picture of the water running below us as we...
I don't think the rocks needed me to help them, but I...
Too pretty to omit.
I couldn't get over the shape of the lower rock. How long...
This is where the path became "moderate."
Sometimes the water was a little deeper.
The changing leaves helped make this a very special walk.
This is where the catwalk crosses the canyon.
No matter how short, a waterfall is still a sight to behold....
Some parts of the catwalk are close to the flowing water.
Looking up or looking down, the Whitewater Canyon has some spectacular views.
Pretty view of waterfall behind some fallen boulders.
Swinging bridge forms the last few yards of the catwalk.
Faraway view of Whitewater Canyon at the swinging bridge.
On the return trip, we stopped to take in some autumn color.
Where did this giant yucca come from? This is New Mexico, not...
We really enjoyed the sightseeing opportunities in and around Deming, New Mexico. We went to Palomas, Mexico and visited the Pink Store for shopping and lunch. Several people mentioned the Catwalk in the Gila National Forest, so we looked into it, and we were very glad we did. The Catwalk was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and has been updated and maintained by the Parks Service. It is only 1.1 miles in length, but it spans the Whitewater Canyon and crosses it a few times. I hope you enjoy the pictures!
