I crossed into the US two days ago. No problems at the border other than the guy asking me where i was going. I told him South America. Same old question, "why?" So I told him my story and all he could say was, "I guess you have to do what you want before it's time." I thought about it for the next few hours. The fuckin' guy could be a writer for Kamloops This Week. Its hard to wipe tears through a helmet. On a higher note, I occasionally get to use 'tumaxcuse'. For instance; "Excuse me sir, why are you peeing in the library?", "Oh, pardon me. I have a brain tumor." Its been too cold for me to pitch my tent but even with hotels I am still under budget. The hotel I stayed at last night was a dive. There was coke residue on the bathroom counter and blood on the sheets and walls. I have stayed in shittier. When I woke this morning there was 1/8" of frost on the bike. The temperature was -3 and there was lots of fog. I am afraid of black ice. Today I only drove about 130km. I had to get to a computer, gym, book store and I have to get some multivitamins. I have quickly discovered that the only place to use a computer is the library. I have been running the last couple of mornings and am rewarded with stiff calves. I am going to the gym after I get out of here. Tomorrow I am going to drive along the Columbia River to Portland and spend the night there. Then its off the the Oregon coast for some winter gale force rains.

Friday the 13th. Stay off the bike. I'm still in Pasco. I decided to stay another day. The weather is shitty today (tomorrow its going to be better), I have to do some work to the bike, I found a great gym (I did 40 min of cardio yesterday), I found some cheap eats, I have a cheap room and I am close to the library and a grocery store. If Spencer, my nephew, was here I would treat him to some Mexican food. I found a cool little family run joint last night and pigged out for $7. I had to go for a hour and a half walk afterwards. Spencer plays junior hockey for tri-cities and lives in Kennewick, which is just over the river on the 'good' side of town. I have to email some people so maybe I will write more later.

I think the prerequisite for being a front desk girl at hotels <$50.00 is to have a stash; either that or its an affliction that occures after the fact. The lady working the desk at 'The Cameo Motel' in Portland has a thicker stash that Ron Jeremy. Its wet and cold here. Its going to be this way until I reach San Fran. I was thinking of staying another day here in Portland but that would just take a day away from San Fran. Portland is Oregon's version of B.C.'s Prince George. I went for a run this morning (5km's). There is a gym around the corner and they wanted $15USD for a drop in! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Whew! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Last night I went to this little pub and sat with a group of guys (no sword play Timmer so don't even ask) and I ended up partying with them all night long. It turns out one of them is a drummer for a punk/indie band called 'Steak Knife!'. http://www.myspace.com/steakkniferocks. The dude's name is Cory. His roommate was there also, his name was Erik. There was a couple of other dudes but I forget their names. We had a few beers at the pub (they had been drinking all day long) then we went over to a buddy's (Jesse) house to watch some college ball. Turns out Jesse is a hardcore rock climber. Jesse's girl was there also. ha ha ha ha uuhhmmmmm. After a re-read that wasn't so funny. At the end of the night we ended up at 'Portland's best dive bar' or so the sign said. It was a strip joint smaller than my house. It contained a dirty old man (not me!) and a couple of bikers. The dancers where hot though! I left the crew at ?? It was a wicked night.

I'm in a town called Newport on the Oregon coast. It was so windy I had to stop riding after old 200km's. The room was cheap though, $40.00 for the night. They are expecting gale force winds tonight (90mph).
