|Hello. Dale here. Obviously my experiences during this trip are the same as Carol but I think she is a better writer. I will now give you my interpretation of today and then you will see why I have asked her to compose most of the blogs. Today we had “Elephant 101” class with Dr. Barbara McKnight. While Barbara lectured about Tsavo, elephants, and the importance of this research we also watched 2 large geckos scampering around on the wall beside the screen. At break, the hotel trainer came into the ladies room with a dozen new male employees to teach them how to clean the area. When I told her someone was in the stall she said, “That’s okay,” and kept going, which is why Carol emerged to find a large waiting audience! Back to class where we went outside and practiced with the GPS and range finder. As if on cue, a family of 8 elephants, including one tiny calf wandered right up to the water hole here at the lodge. They stayed through dinner and I had to pinch myself to believe this was really happening as I enjoyed my dinner wine while watching the silhouette of the family matriarch passing through the full moon that rose over the scene.
