Travels with Holly - The Big One travel blog

After 2 1/2 weeks in Texas, we headed north toward New Mexico. We had a beautiful drive through the Davis Mountains of West Texas.

Our first stop was at a little bakery in the town of Davis. There are no Dunkin Donut shops every 1/4 mile like in MA, but we did find a small bakery that made great donuts. Just out of town, we made a stop an another historical place, Fort Davis. I do like the way we have preserved our past.

Fort Davis was a military base used from 1854 to 1891 and was on the road from San Antonio to El Paso. The soldiers protected the travelers, mail coaches and settlers headed west. Many buildings are restored. I'm showing you a few photos of the entrance and officers quarters.
