I am going to make it

Almost there

Well, was it worth it?

Now I have to get down.

10/8 – 10/13

Our next stop was Gooseneck State Park outside of Mexican Hat, Utah – a 136 mile drive from Moab (US191, US163, SR261, SR316). Our parking spot was at the edge of a cliff overlooking the San Juan River. What a gorgeous view! While in the area we:

>toured Natural Bridges National Monument. Natural bridges and arches look the same, the only difference is the way they are formed. Natural bridges are formed by rivers, arches are formed by any type of erosion except rivers. We took the loop road at the monument which took us to three natural bridges and a 1000 year old Indian village. Included in the drive to Natural Bridges was a drive up Moki Dugway, a gravel road that climbs 700 feet up a mountain and provides some beautiful views.

>drove the 17 mile dirt road through Valley of the Gods. This area has some outstanding rock formations.

>visited the Butler Wash Indian ruins. This area seems to be loaded with old Indian pueblos.

>went to the Edge of Cedars State Park which has an excellent ancient Indian museum with a good collection of artifacts from the area. The museum also includes an Indian pueblo ruin on its grounds.

>checked out the petroglyphs at Sand Island near Bluff, Utah.

>drove to Monument Valley which is located on a Navajo reservation. They also have a 17 mile gravel road that goes by some interesting rock formations.
