Rachel's post 30 escape 2009 travel blog

Today´s trip was to the Perito Morreno glacier and the national park. We had quite heavy snow and no view for most of the bus trip but as we arrived at the harbour, it lightened up so we were able to get great views of the ice from the boat although you really did have to show no mercy when it came to trying to take photos with some of the other passengers. I know I´m British and therefore quite happy to queue but I really was losing my patience with some of the prats that kept jumping in front of you7pushing you out the way. Annoying. But I think I managed to get a few good shots to bore eveyrone with! After the boat trip we drove to a view point where we had more snow, and more glacier photos. I probably sound a bit glacier-d out but they really are amazing, I just cant do it justice writing about it.

Back in town we had a wander about where I managed to specatularly go flying on the main street over a bit of dodgy cement work. Owwwwwww. I decided the only way to feel better was a glass of Argentinian Chardonnay and retreated to a very cute pub where most of the rest of the group also wound up. Several glasses later and we spent about 30 minutes trying to pay the bill- I dont think I´ve ever seen adults argue with waiters that we havent paid enough before! Quite a debacle. The debacle continued for dinner. a group of 9 of us formed and headed in search of a restaurant. The problems began when one member quite obviously was not intending to go to any old restaurant and vetoed 3 immediately which seemed to irk other members of the group. (note that I was now 3 glasses of wine down and would have eaten at Macdonalds for the sake of food!) WE finally made it into a lovely looking restaurant where the waiters fussed over us and rearranged tables etc. Once seated and upon reading the menu, there was suddenly some debate on whether this was too expensive. Now, I know I live in London and therefore am used to paying a bit more for food, but they (grown adults in full time employment) were squabbling/moaning like students about the prices. A bowl of yummy sounding pasta was going to be about 10 pounds. Possibly expensive for Argentina but not in the grand scheme of things. So, i was completely mortified when there was a decision by one, loud, member fo the group to leave. I do not remember being sooo embarassed for quite some time.

Eventually, after various other silliness too trivial to mention, I ended up in a rather aptly named restaurant - El Sulky - with 2 others where we had a rather lacklustre dinner of pasta , but at least more wine.
