From Salta I headed to Tilcara, which is further north on the route to Bolivia. This is a small town nestled in the Andean foothills. the proximity to Bolivia is very noticeable here, in the culture and in peoples faces. The town is overlooked by some partially preserved Inca ruins (El Pucara) high on the hillside. And there is a worthwhile trek to a large canyon, locally known as garganta del Diablo (devils throat)
