27 Oct Phnom Penh/Siem Reap, Cambodia

Forgot to tell you that Phnom Penh is getting ready for the Water and Full Moon Festival. Decorations and presentation platforms are going up all over the city. They expect over 500 Dragon boats to participate in races. Last year they had over 1000 from Providences all over Cambodia. They had flooding a few months ago so fewer people are expected this year. We left at 8 am by bus for Siem Reap stopped along the way to take pictures of oxen plowing the rice fields. Got some really closeup pictures. You won't believe it but at our toilet break we stopped at a place that had tarantula's, live and cooked and I even held a live tarantula. Have a picture to prove it. Then on to see how they make bricks, I didn't watch as I was busy taking pictures of the kids. Also stopped at a stone carving village but no one was carving. They were all taking a break, did see lots of statues and got pictures of children. Next we stopped to see fishermen throwing their fishing nets, then had lunch at a riverside restaurant. Then stopped to see a family husking rice using a machine that is pumped by foot. Also came upon a funeral procession. Must have been an important person because there were lots of mourners. Went out to dinner tonight to a buffet meal that included a show afterwards. Very enjoyable. Tomorrow we go to visit a local school and village then have a home-hosted lunch. In the afternoon while the rest of my group is visiting Banteay Srei and the Angkor Museum, I'm going to go by tut tut and get an overview of Angkor Wat by going up in a tethered hot air balloon. Well I will close for now will e-mail again tomorrow as its free in this hotel.
