Our next door neighbors have been so much fun. From the moment we entered the RV park until we left Saturday afternoon, they have been a hoot. Nashville is their home base. Their "almost a Prevost" motor coach looked elegant with its burgundy paint scheme. A little back peddling first...The town of Lynchburg is hosting its annual World's Invitational Barbecue Cook-Off. New York, Texas, Georgia, Indiana and more are represented here along with the Food Network! The next door neighbor is a vendor at such events displaying her silver jewelry. Come to find out they race a tunnel boat which is somewhat akin to hydroplane boat racing. All boat racers are considered "crazy". Nonetheless boat pictures and stories were passed back and forth.
Cascade Hollow(haller) is the home of George Dickel Tennessee Sipping Whisky. Whisky made in the winter is smoother than whisky made in the summer. So, Dickel-liscious is the only Tennessee whisky to be chilled before it goes into the charcoal mellowing vats. Virgin wool blankets filter out the oils and fatty acids inherent in some recipe products. We learned time is measured in years when making whisky. Have you noticed I left the "e" out of whiskey? That is because George declared his whisky as smooth as the finest scotch. Keeping with the Scottish whisky tradition, the "e" has been dropped.
Secrecy is the name of the game with the moonshiner! Neither distillery allows photography but they sure enough allow inhaling the vapors! For Jack Daniel's it was the sour mash stage that was most fragrant; for George Dickel's it was the spent beer phase which is akin to sourdough starter!
The General Store has the only working Post Office at any distillery in the United States! We are heading over to Rogersville, Tn. to check on things at my parents place. It is a beautiful two story log home with the Devil's Nose Mtn as a backdrop. From there, my sister and I will meet up to attend a family funeral in Atlanta. By Wednesday I'll return to the coach with Corky-man!
