I made it back to the country via motorcycles, a taxi and a ferry. Today, I decided to bike to the market to get some fruit because Sokah, the cook, has the day off on Sunday. Forty-five minutes and a lot of sweat work later, I was there. I managed to get 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) of fruit for less than $2 and a bottle of water. On the way back, I took the scenic route and saw rural Cambodia at its best. People were out in the rice fields with their water buffolo and animals dotted the roads. There was a wedding with speakers blaring and people dancing. Lots of naked boys (the boys don't generally wear clothes until age 6 or so) were running around. I saw motorcycles loaded with 4 people and a car stuck in a hole of mud. I have to say that the fruit tasted better because of the work I did. This afternoon, I pumped the well to get water for the family. It's a foot pump so I sat on a little bench off the ground and peddled until the water started to flow and John caught it in mason jars. It was pretty hard work. Debbie likes the water to be flowing for 10 minutes before she captures it and I have to say that I was tired! I'll sleep well tonight. More later.
