10-15-2009 Cades Cove
We drove to Cades Cove several times during our stay at Wear Valley, TN some trips it was raining and cloudy but is has been sunny the last two times and it was a nice Fall drive. We saw wild turkeys, wild pigs, many deer and an 8-point buck within 10 ft of our car and many beautiful valley and mountain views. Cades Cove is a one way drive around a valley within the Smoky Mountain National Park. As you drive around you have mountains and forest to the outside view and the inside view is numerous large open fields that were farms back in the early 1900’s, before it became a National Park. The Government purchased all the land in the early 1900’s. You can also see 3 Churches and cemeteries from that time and several log homes and farm buildings from that time. There is also an old mill there. This is an excellent drive not to be missed if you’re in the area. Once in the park there is an 11 mile one-way road that takes about 1 1//2 to 5 hours to drive through depending on your stops.
