We spent our last few days in China in Kunming. As our guide puts it, it is a "small town" (less than 5 million people). Our tour finished here and we all went out to dinner to a lovely restaurant with an unfortunate name. When we showed the taxi driver the restaurant card with name on it, half the group ended up at the South Train Station the other half ended up at the South Train Station Restaurant. We eventually worked out what had happened and all ended up at the same place for a great farewell dinner.
MS and I spent our time wondering around the streets of Kunming checking out the parks where we did a lot of people watching. We were enticed by the smells coming from some local cafes but as there were no pictures to point at and only Chinese menus we were getting a bit frustrated. Until MS came up with the ingenious plan of taking a photo of some dumplings and then showing it to the lady at the pay station. When she had stopped laughing, she gave us a ticket and we went and picked up 20 dumplings for $2! They were delicious.
We have really enjoyed our time in China - we loved the food, the culture, the landscapes and the friendly people. The Chinese have made a huge effort to make foreigners welcome and that even includes some signs in English. While we were grateful that they were there, some of them were interestingly worded - I have attached some photos of some of the signs we have seen along the way - hope you enjoy!
Next stop - Nepal!
