MS and I were joining another tour starting in Kunming – the main purpose of this tour was to hike Tiger Leaping Gorge. We arrived late on the first day so did not meet our fellow tour members until the next day.
First stop on the tour was Lijiang which was a nine hour bus ride from Kunming. The first thing we noticed in this part of the country was the sky – we couldn't believe it – beautiful clear blue sky and we were just mesmerized all day staring at the sky. This was the first blue sky we had seen in China in three weeks.
We arrived in Lijiang in time for a quick walk around the Old Town which was where our guest house was located. It is a beautiful area which had the snow-capped Jade Dragon Mountain as the perfect backdrop. We had a free day there to explore and we visited Mu's house, Lion Hill for great views on the town and the Black Dragon Pool Park which was the prettiest place I have been to in a long time. The town is quite a tourist area and the streets were lined with souvenir shops – here you don't have to bargain either as the first price is the best price which made a pleasant change (not that we could fit much in our luggage anyway).
MS enjoyed sampling the street food including yak's meat skewers and eggy bread while I was a bit under the weather for the first couple of days so didn't join him. We only had a short visit here but it was a beautiful place to visit.
