Arjan came to visit for almost three weeks in September, which was great.
First on the agenda was New Orleans, just 3 hours from Fairhope, we headed to New Orleans Thursday morning and arrived before lunch. Like all tourist the fist thing we did was go to Café de Monde to have something to drink and eat beignets. The rest of the day we roamed around Jackson square and the rest of New Orleans. In the evening we enjoyed drinks and the atmosphere of bourbon street, we also had a famous New Orleans hurricane drink, which really leaves you feeling like a hurricane went through you once your finished with it. The following day after skipping our continental breakfast because it just consisted of sweat muffins, pastries and coffees we headed for the center of New Orleans again. In the afternoon we learned more about New Orleans by taking the steamboat, The Natchez.
Saturday we left early to catch a plane to New York. After surviving our rough taxi trip we checked into our hotel, which was in mid Manhattan, allowing us to walk every where. We immediately went to see things and walked to Times Square. The following day we walked all the way past china town, Soho, Brooklyn Bridge and the financial district to take a ferry to the statue of liberty. Even though it was overcast, late in the afternoon and not even holiday session it still took at least an hour to get onto the ferry, seeing as everyone needs to go through a security scan. The third day of our stay we took a relaxing stroll to the museum of modern art and enjoyed central park.
Tuesday we headed back to New Orleans, so that we could dry back to Fairhope. I had to work on Thursday. I decided to work once a week while Arjan was in America as the Americans rarely take more than a week holiday, and most of my colleagues at Airinc only have two weeks holiday time per year. This is increased to three weeks if you have worked at the company for more than 10 years. Going to work was worth it though, as I was given the opportunity to do the All hands meeting. I got to tell the whole of Airinc (almost 70 people) what the companies financial status was for the month and departmental updates, and give a few awards. I was a bit nervous, but it was definitely not as bad as I expected.
After relaxing a few more days in Fairhope and deliberating as to where we would still like to go, we enjoyed our last days together in Panama City beach. Just enjoying cocktails and the beach. Arjan left a few days after we came back, but the good news being that I would be going to the Netherlands within a week of his departure.
