From Kalbarri we travelled another 395km south – via Geraldton and then took the coast road down to Jurien Bay.

We found Jurien Bay to be a very nice little seaside town with all the shops and services and very popular with holidaymakers. It was still school holidays so quite busy but nevertheless we had a very pleasant stay here.

This area is called the Turquoise Coast and certainly lives up to its name with the beautiful clear turquoise water. The temperature was a lot cooler here and the water just a bit too cold for swimming. However the beach was beautiful and we were fortunate to see dolphins passing by just off the beach and plenty of fish in the water.

Fishing is very popular here and there are tours out to nearby islands to see the sea-lions. This part of the coast is the Jurien Bay Marine Park and there are several other lovely beaches in this area.

Just south of Jurien Bay and near the little town of Cervantes is the Nambung National Park and the famous Pinnacles Desert. The Pinnacles are thousands of limestone pillars of all shapes and sizes scattered over a large area of sandy desert. Visitors can walk around the area and there is also a track to to drive around to view these amazing rocks. We spent a very interesting morning here wandering around and taking photographs.

On our return to Jurien Bay, we took a short detour and came to another beautiful beach called Hangover Bay, a lovely pristine beach with clear turquoise water, so tempting to swim and snorkel – but just a bit too cold!
