Molly's Irish Adventures! travel blog

Now here’s something fun and so Irish that i got to experience. Last Thursday was the 250th anniversary of Guinness. There were commercials and banners and advertisements going on the entire time i’ve been here building up for it and discounted Guinness on the actual day (I know... Irish giving a discount on beer? No way... I don’t know if i’ve mentioned how ridiculously expensive everything here is. Normally a beer is from 3.50 eruo and the cheapest to 4 euro on average, so it was a big deal when the student pub -yes my school does have an on campus pub... wooo Ireland! haha- had a 2.50 euro deal on Guinness was a big deal).

So i had a class at 5 and it got out a little early so my friend Brian and i ran over to the Stables (the pub) in hopes of getting a beer for 17:59, but there was no hope. It was so crowded that we couldn’t even move. It was about 8 people deep to get to the bar. So we gave up on trying to get to the bar and just focused on trying not to get squished or trampled. They had a count down kind of thing on the TV, it was honestly like a New Years count down. When it actually got to the time they called Tom Jones up to the stage and he led The Toast. And at the same time pretty much everyone in the whole country raised their glasses and yelled, “To Arthur!!!!” and that’s kind of how it went for the rest of the night.

I actually had to run home and finish a paper, but i did finish it and get my Guinness later on that night. It was a crazy night, pretty much everyone was out celebrating 250 years of excellence lol. It was defiantly a once in a life time experience :)

This is the link to the ad that has been showing forever. I absolutely love it (and now i can say i was a part of it).
