Today I visited Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (www.nv.blm.gov/redrockcanyon). It is just a few miles west of Las Vegas at the termination of West Charleston Boulevard/NV159. I stopped first at the visitor center, but it is incomplete. They are in process of building a new center that will have more exhibits. Then I drove the 13-mile scenic loop through the canyon. Of course, I stopped at every overlook. I didn’t hike any of the trails, though, because it was just too hot. Many of them would have been too strenuous for me anyway. I had lunch at the last overlook where there were covered picnic tables. From there I had a good overview of the canyon. I really enjoyed the drive.
While I was there, another piece of the porcelain broke off a crown on one of my molars. The base of the crown apparently is still intact because I’m not having any pain. I called the RV park office to see if they knew of a dentist who takes patients on Saturday, but they didn’t. They transferred me to the hotel bell desk and Jose gave me a dentist’s number. I left a message but no one called back.
I had broken a piece off of the same crown nine months ago and had to see a dentist in Durant, Oklahoma, to smooth it. It has never bothered me at all. This time, I may have to bite the dentist’s fingers…er, bite the bullet…and have the crown replaced.
When I got back to town, I stopped at the Premier Car Wash on West Charleston Boulevard to give Sweet Pea a much-needed bath. The road grime was getting to me. :>) The guys did a bang-up job of cleaning, vacuuming and hand-drying. They even washed and dried my floor mats and put paper protectors on the front ones. All this for only $20.
Back at the RV park, I stopped at the office to look up the dentist Jose had recommended, but couldn’t find him in the directory. Two of the RV office staff recommended a dentist that they both use, so I called his office and left a message. His dental assistant called back soon and offered to let me come in this afternoon so she could file the jagged edge, but I told her that I could wait until Monday. She told me that the office assistant would call me Monday morning to let me know when I could come in. Now, that’s good service.
My last stop of the day was at the Wal-Mart, which is just across the street from the RV park. I had put it off about as long as I could.
