After a great breakfast I had to say a tearful good-bye to my friends -- we never know when we shall see each other again. After another ferry ride back to mainland I drove quickly towards Skive and stopped at my favourite florist.I bought a small fall arrangement and placed it on my Mother's tomb stone. I drove by my niece, Tine's, new beauty salon to be opened in a week's time - nobody was home. She will be on her own and has the salon attached to their house (separate building) and can then look after the two girls also. I stopped by Sten's and said good bye to him and Mikkel. My next stop was another army buddy No. 415942 (I was 415955) so you know he is slightly taller than I. Kjeld lives with his wife, Bodil, in a small town called Kibæk just outside of Herning. He is retired after operating the family farm for many years and built this great house in the small town. Bodil, of course, had prepared the Danish luncheon, smørgåsbord, with everything from pickled herring to liver paté and all the other delicacies in between and ending with cheese tray and homemade cakes! Well, it was my last meal in Denmark for a long time to come - I did take advantage and made Bodil very pleased with my great "appreciation" of all the dishes!!! I left after Kjeld and I had talked artillery army stuff and looked over all the photos of our old friends from that period in our lives. Kjeld was pleased to hear that I had visited Vagn (No. 415956) earlier in the week -- they do not keep in touch. After the visit in Kibæk I drove very fast (140 km/hr)towards the German border. I arrived in Hamburg around 20:00 at the Hauptbahnhof and dropped the car at Europcar. The small Mercedes Benz had been a pleasure to drive and seemed fairly economical in gas consumption.
I caught a train to Berlin and arrived at the Mercure hotel close to the train station. Very nice room and I went straight to bed.
