Yesterday we drove to Springfield and took care of a few chores. Springfield is an old industrial city, home of the original Indian Motocycle Co., the parts we saw were not very attractive and I didn't take any photos.
Today we ventured back to the 1830's and a New England village at "Old Sturbridge Village", which is a beautiful and historically accurate re-creation of life in the period. Daily life is faithfully reproduced and reenacted by historical guides dressed in period costumes. The village is spread over 200 acres of unspoiled countryside and contains 40 antique buildings. All manner of trade is depicted with working blacksmith, potters, printing office, cooper shop and tin shop. A working farm complete with livestock and food garden. There is a sawmill, grist mill, carding mill and cider mill. This is a well laid out and interesting attraction. The guides are knowledgeable and it was insightful discussing life nearly two hundred yeas ago. I wonder if in two hundred years from now people will wonder how we lived in such a primitive era and were able to thrive?
