Joe and Mustafa our city tour guide for Saturday

Gullivar starts sightseeing in Sarajevo

Jen updating blog

After arriving in Sarajevo and settling into our apartment we spent Friday morning resting. By Friday afternoon, I could contain Joe no longer so we walked to the taxi stand and went to the City Center. We first visited the Tourist Information Center to obtain a city map in order to somewhat find our way around the city. All of these Bosnian words and spellings are very confusing, but the locals are very helpful. Our next stop was at a local café that had free internet. We sat for about 3 hours and checked e-mails and updated our travel log. Joe continued to sample the Bosnian coffee and beer. The café let us sit there as long as we wanted and while there we met two Americans that now live in Sarajevo. The lady works for an International Government Agency that looks for missing people killed during the war. The gentleman is a professor at the American University in Sarajevo. They were very helpful in telling us about good restaurants (especially those that had non-smoking sections) and places to visit. We enjoyed visiting with them very much. Time to return to the apartment so we had to find a taxi stand. While looking we came across a take-out restaurant that served “Bosnian pie.” These pies are made of phyllo dough filled with meat, spinach, mashed potato, or cheese then rolled into a tube and fashioned into a circle and baked in a round pizza pan. This restaurant placed them in strips and baked them in square pans. They asked us how many people we were feeding, weighed the pie, wrapped it in paper and sent us on our way. It was still warm when we arrived back home. Yum Yum… We enjoyed dinner in the apartment and settled in for the evening. Saturday we have hired a local tour guide, Mustafa, that will give us a tour of the city. Until tomorrow…
