Romania, Passage Romania to Bulgaria

Wednesday August 19, 2009

Since we got a late start from Odessa, our plan to get to Romania changed a bit. We stopped in Sulina, Romania, at 0910. We clear in with the authorities, who remember us from our visit last month. Quick stop at the market, and we settle in for a quiet night.

Thursday, August 20, 2009

We plan to motor out the 5 mile channel before dawn, but when we start out at 0405 it is just too dark. There are no lights once we pass the village. So we turn around, tie up again, and wait until dawn. We get underway again at 0515. Motor sail to Port Tomis, Romania arriving at 1845. Long day.

Friday/Saturday, August 21-22, 2009

Underway at 0850, and motor to Mangalia, Romania. Light north wind, motored all the way. Secured to the pontoon at 1315. A kick back day on Saturday. I go ashore for a little shopping. Saturday night we walked over to the beach area, and spent our last Romanian money on dinner. The last coins went for ice cream!!!

Sunday Morning, August 23, 2009

Up at 0500, and clear out with harbormaster, customs and immigration. We wave good bye to Romania, and are underway by 0645. Destination – Balcheck, Bulgaria.
