Wanderings and Side Trips travel blog

I used to read a lot - sometimes a book a day. I also used to do needlepoint and cross stitch. I saved all kinds of needlework projects for my retirement. I was so excited to get them out and start working on them. Alas!! My eyes had changed (not for the better) and I could no longer see well enough to get the needle through the little holes.

My main passion was genealogy - researching my family history. You could say I was a fanatic. It loved it. However, that activity seems to have drifted away with our move to the farm. To much to do - so little time:-) I really want to resume that research, but just can't seem to find the time.

I also used to hike and ski, but my body will no longer cooperate with that, plus you need to take out a loan for a day of snow skiing these days:-) I hope to return to hiking when my knees are fixed soon.

My free time seems to be spent on the computer these days. I love to play games and I can usually find someone who will play, but since retirement, Wes has had to be my partner, and he doesn't like games. Actually only a couple - pitch and Wahoo. Maybe dice sometimes. So I discovered games on my computer. I have lots of games downloaded to play, but they get boring after a while and then I can pretty much win over the computer - no challenge there. Plus my DH and my SIL kept telling me my computer problems are because of too many games. Some of my RV friends introduced me to PoGo, an online game site. I love it and spend considerable time there. You can even chat with your friends while you are playing:-)

On our trip to Beavers Bend last year, we discovered Wii. What a hoot! Four of us could be in one RV bowling or playing miniature golf. It was great fun! Some of our group even went out and bought their own game set. It's pretty expensive and we had other things on our need/want list before that. But I look forward to getting together with those friends again for those activities.

Now, my kids have introduced me to FaceBook. That is fun, but I would be just fine without the messaging part of it. However, I am hooked on Farm Town and FarmVille. They are "virtual" farms you build yourself. I really enjoy that.

So - with retirement has come some new addictions, but I am enjoying them all:-) It's a great option. I don't know how anyone can be bored in life with so much to experience and enjoy!
