Lake Tahoe straddles the border of Nevada and California and is a playground for the rich and famous. It reminded us of Lake Placid, New York where there were lots of large and awesome summer homes with sadly more for sale than you would see in other years. We did a complete drive around the perimeter of the lake (about 120 kms) and again had beautiful weather for the tour and our picnic lunch. I was able to see Mount Rose (9,700 ft) which Beth climbed and then skied down about 10 years ago . Climbing up the mountain included carrying your ski equipment up with you.
We left Lake Tahoe and headed for Yosemite Park, California. Along the route we came across a lookout over Mono Lake. The guardrail there was covered in stickers and signatures. We added our own and moved on.(see picture)
Yosemite Park is breathtaking. Gigantic mountains, crazy roads with no guard rails and all the while lots of cars pulling camping trailers. We stopped to view Bridalveil Fall which is 188 metres (620 ft) high. There was not a lot of water going over it but it was still great to see. We talked to two climbers at the bottom who had just completed a 3 day climb of the Leaning Tower next to the falls. They seemed quite relived to be back on solid ground. They had spent the nights sleeping on ledges part way up!
