Left Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and headed out...still traveling south-south east. Left the hotel in the rain....so completely geared up from the start today. We traveled another 300 miles ending up in Hot Springs, Arkansas...but at least we traveled beautiful roads...from what we could see through the drizzle and fog all day!
We traveled 51 out of broken arrow - exited on Oklahoma Hwy 51 - by way of unmanned toll. With all our raingear on - and the fact that we were supposed to throw correct change into the stupid booth and our lead rider at the time only had a twenty dollar bill....we followed our fearless leader through the toll without paying. I'm hoping Sergeant Draffin has some pull in Oklahoma when they issue our arrest warrants...
We continued on 51 into Arkansas - then it turned into a bunch of different highways until we turned on Scenic 7 south. What a beautiful road - again, if the sun had been shining, it would have been phenomenal. As it was - in the rain the fog - it still was a nice ride. It looks like this highway used to be much more popular - a lot of rundown, closed up motels and gift shops told the story of a much more traveled day. All hills and curves - it is certainly a perfect motorcycling road. With the wet pavement, we all took the curves a little slower than we probably would have in drier weather. But they were very gentle, sweeping curves for the most part, and it was very cool. Especially after the past couple of days with nothing to see.
We stopped for lunch at the Ozark Cafe in Jasper Arkansas. Talk about a step back into time! From the men in the rocking chairs outside the cafe, and in front of city hall - to the soda counter in the cafe - and ice cream sundaes! Very cool - after a delicious, southern lunch (we knew we were back in the south when the waitress asked if we wanted sweet tea!), we headed back out to the scenic 7 highway. Nice riding. We made it to Hot Springs - apparently one day after a great rally ended! We'll have to remember that next year - take the week before the Bainbridge Bike fest and do Hot springs' rally too!
We had dinner on a little lake and headed back to the room for a good night's rest.
Yippee, caught up on the journal finally! Well, except for the pictures. We'll get those on asap.
Love and miss you all. We'll see some of you in Bainbridge tomorrow and over the weekend. We realize that for some of you fair weather riders, the rain and the loooong ride will keep you away. tee hee
