This is US Highway 2!

Virgin territory!

The road!

The amber fields of grain!

The River!

Lewis & Clark SP on the Missouri River!

The view!

Leaving Fort Peck this morning after a much needed rain and great Labor Day weekend, we noticed a leaky coolant valve which will need attention at a Cummins Service Center, either in Gillette, WY or Denver. For now, we hop undaunted on US Highway 2, continuing east to the state of North Dakota, new territory for us. Ooops, what does that sign say: "Pavement Ends"! But this is a "national highway"; almost like an interstate though mostly two lanes. But they weren't kidding....For the next 20 miles or so we bounced along while in the background the sound of crunching and clinking emanating from the cabinets had us holding on for dear life! Luckily, all inventory made it intact, save for a bit of spilled red wine vinegar. Sadly though, our little "casa mobile" has been dipped and coated in greasy, grimy road stuff!

By mid-afternoon we made it to our destination in northwestern North Dakota, Lewis and Clark State Park, about 20 miles east of Williston; a mere 150 miles total for a slow-driving day! Again, we exclaim on the beauty of our surroundings, noting the enormity of the Missouri River and the greener, more contrasting landscape. We are met by the friendly camp hosts who, this past weekend had a full to overflowing park, and now we have our pick of sites with water and electricity; $15 per night, and with a river view! Summer is officially over!

Stay tuned as tomorrow we follow in the local path of the great explorers, Lewis and Clark!
