Second day at Rincon de la Vieja National Park:
The persistent nipping of bed mites kept me up most of the night. At sunrise I convinced John to accompany me on a quest to find a hidden waterfall brought to our attention by an English-speaking man whom we met on the hike. Our exploration was fruitful, as John and I did finally stumble upon the most magnificent lagoon I could ever imagine. We returned to the lodge to meet Tiffany and Trevor for breakfast, and then immediately led them to the hidden gem. We spent a couple of hours swimming and admiring the beauty of this lagoon. It reminded me of Casa Bonita because of the waterfalls and blue water, which is a result of dissolved copper compounds in the water. Two rivers join together at this spot and continue on as one river. This was the highlight of my trip thus far.

A close contender for the highlight of my vacation is the spa we visited after our swim. We were the only people at this spa (aside from the beautiful Latin American man who was working at the spa, playing his guitar, and serving us cold beverages). We started with 10 minutes in the sauna, followed by a full body mask of bubbling volcanic mud, then a soak in the hot springs, and finally a refreshing a dip in the fresh water pool. Trevor and I did the whole circuit twice. Fabulous! Check out photos in the next entry.
We stopped in Liberia, which is about half way back to Tamarindo, for a delicious late lunch. When we returned to the condo John and I switched rooms with Trevor and Tiffany. They had been staying in the master bedroom, which is significantly nicer than the second bedroom. While I am glad to be in the better room, I am sad that the occasion marks the halfway point in this amazing vacation.
