Sept 4 – Friday
Another gorgeous sunny day for us to tour more of this beautiful Island. Our first stop of the day was at Walmart and then on to the harbor at Summerside and to the Baywalk at Spinnakers’ Landing. We didn’t walk the 6.5 km boardwalk but we did enjoy the little shops and a lunch at the waterfront. Driving around the south west tip we stopped at Cap-Egmont for a visit to the Bottle Houses. Three fanciful buildings are made of more than 25,000 glass bottles of various shapes, colors and sizes with a lovely flower garden surrounding them. We then drove on to Abram-Village where we heard a Country Fair and Festival was going on. It was rather small in comparison to the fairs we are used to at home but it was nice seeing the different displays and the enthusiasm of the young 4-Hers. We also got to meet “Focus”, a Holstein heifer from the Crasdale Farm that we understand our Pastor Glenn has an interest in. Back to Summerside we enjoyed a lovely dinner on the waterfront patio at Lobster House Restaurant & Oyster Bar with the beautiful sun warming us as the blue herons in the water hunted for their supper while the tide was going out.
For evening enjoyment Norm & Marian, Jim & Sandy and Gary & Elaine drove to Victoria on the south coast to the “Victoria Playhouse” to take in the drama “Tuesdays with Morrie”. We enjoyed an awesome sunset over Victoria Bay as we waited for the doors to open. This truly was an awesome performance based on the book “Tuesdays With Morrie” by Mitch Albom. A father-son teamed up as actors in this moving and powerful presentation. Morrie, college professor and journalist, Mitch a student some 20 years ago reconnect, the older man having only months to live. They visited in Morrie’s study every Tuesday which turned into a last class in the meaning of life. A touching, life-affirming, deeply emotional drama with a generous dose of humor.
