The 1983 "Avanti"--see photo above--was seen along side the road in Elkhart. "Avanti" was originally made by Studebaker in the early 1960's. Studebaker made them for about two years, and the company then went through several owners until the early 1990's.
This Avanti was $18,900....need a car? It looked spiffy, and pretty much original, had kelly green leather interior.
We moved down the road about 25-30 miles to Nappanee IN, 5 miles from where the motorhome was assembled. We had been at Elkhart Campground for a week....it's time to move on! ha!
We stopped this morning at the home and shop of an Amish furniture maker. In addition to making traditional home cabinets, tables, etc, he makes furniture for recreational vehicles. He has two styles of computer desks available. The one we CHOSE has space for the tower of the computer. There is also room for the printer, and has a file drawer. Hurray! He matches the existing stain of the cabinets in the motorhome so everything will match. He will be able to install it Friday afternoon. There will be before and after photos!
After lunch we went to the "parts department" of Newmar RV. Glen picked up a few small items that doesn't seem to be available at most dealers. The water filter that goes in the kitchen sink area was $10 cheaper also. We are going back tomorrow for a tour of the factory. We did that last year, but its free, and we can see what's new. At least Newmar is still open
The campground where we are has about 600 sites. There are some rigs that are here for the season--April 13/October 15. When we checked in all of the sites were reserved except for three sites. Have I mentioned Glen doesn't like to make reservations? We paid for a week to be here through Labor Day week end. We are in an open area, full hook ups, all lush grass--no concrete pads to park on or use as a patio. The neighbors aren't too close ! As Glen says: "we are't buying the place!" I don't mean for that to sound negative as this actually a very nice campground.
What are your plans for Labor Day week end? There is a "Blueberry Festival" at a nearby small town. We will be there at least one day. Glen can't wait for a blueberry milkshake!
It's 11:04 Eastern time, and down to 54 degrees! The tv news comes on at eleven instead of ten; it makes for a late evening!
