from eastern side of Silver Lake to the State Park

Silver Lake State Park has an area for visitors to be able to ride dune buggies (rent on in town) and another area for pedestrians to hike or use the beach. At the very end is the Little Sable (saw-bull) Lighthouse but one has to drive there. Part of the park is leased for the exclusive use of Mac Wood's Dune Rides. For $16, you get 40-50 minutes on a custom dune buggy that fits up to 22 people with a driver who explains things along the way. This was fun, as some of the ride was like being on a small roller coaster. I learned how the dunes came into existence (George Mears destroyed the forest to provide wood to Chicago after their great fire), what trees survive this habitat, and how Silver Lake is getting shallow. The Department of Natural Resources has a plan for this though. In about 99 years, they will rename the lake to Sliver Lake!
