Jefferson, TX lies in the northeast corner of Texas minutes from the Louisiana state line. Jefferson was once the Lone Star State's version of New Orleans. It was the largest riverport in Texas from the 1840's to 1870's. It still has charm but is now a sleepy little town. Couldn't find a coffee shop open at 10am. Went into a very charming, old building called Jefferson General Store. They had small styrofoam cups of coffee for 5 cents. Oh and pecan pralines....yum! Very nostalgic store with lots of interesting items. Found a book I had to have called Petite Rouge, a Cajun Red Riding Hood. Hilarious and very cute.
Wanted to take a bayou or train ride but nothing runs on Monday. Not many things open Sunday or Mondays in these parts.
