Diamond Mining Ghost Town

For a quick overview of Namibia by the BBC, click here

We had an easy crossing into Namibia, which was only an hour's drive from Springbok. Drove through Fish River Canyon on very dusty, gravel roads to the town of Luderitz. After several hours driving through desert and sand dunes, this coastal town has an almost lost, surreal feeling.

Luderitz is a small, colonial town established to support the discovery of diamonds here back in 1908. Not much happening in the town, but did spend an interesting morning touring the nearby ghost town of Kolmanskop. Kolmanskop was completely abandoned back in the 1950's, but the dry climate has preserved many of the buildings (though sand has taken over many).
