Happy Indian Independence Day!

We arrived in Leh earlier this morning - and boy the Himalayas are beautiful! We've rented a room in a guesthouse here for 300 Rs (about $3 each per night), and the view is incredible! We can see the mountains right out of our window (pictures to come soon)! Leh is about 12,000 ft. above sea level, and you can really feel the altitude. We have to spend the next 48 hours resting (they say you shouldn't exert yourself more than walking to a restaurant to eat), so we're really happy to have such a beautiful setting to read and relax in. Leh is also a tourist/vacation town, so it's really quiet and feels really safe. We've finally found other tourists (in Delhi we were beginning to think we were the only tourists here!), so hopefully we'll meet some other interesting travellers.

Yesterday, we saw some more things in Delhi with a private driver (a gift from our travel agent for booking the Rajasthan tour with him). It was so relaxing haveing someone drive you where you wanted to go, and wait for you outside. One of the places that is a must-see in the guidebook was actually our Driver Singh's Sikh temple (it was beautiful), so he came in with us and showed us around, and what customs to follow while inside. We also saw some gigantic tombs (which really looked more like palaces with beautiful gardens surrounding them). The Taj Mahal was modelled after two of the tombs we saw (but on a much grander scale). We were so impressed with these smaller tombs, that it's made us even more excited to see the Taj Mahal!

Thanks to everyone who has been sending us messages - we really enjoy them!

Enjoy the beautiful Canadian weather that I hear you have right now!
