Journey to Matthew! travel blog

We woke up at 5am and checked out of the hotel. We took a ride to the airport with our travel guides. They escorted us to where we would wait for our flight. The first flight was uneventful - Matthew just didn't like the window shade open. When we got to Shang Hai, we had to wait for 5 hours until our 12 1/2 hour flight to Newark. Matthew was really warming up to Dave, the airport even had a mini playground area, but Matt preferred to run around the waiting room and have us chase him. We boarded the flight and when we took off, matthew fell asleep. He slept for about 2 hours in my arms. When I moved, he woke up and started crying. I thought we were in for another long journey (some of you may remember that Sarah screamed and cried the entire flight home back in 2005). However, matthew only cried for about a half hour. We fed him and played with him. He fell back asleep and slept for most of the way home. When we arrived at Newark, we went through Immigration and Customs without a hitch. We met Susie who drove us home. Matthew HATED the car seat and proceeded to scream and carryon for about an hour until he fell back asleep. Again, some of you may remember that Sarah hated the car seat, too. It took her 2 months to get used to the car seat. In China, the children don't sit in car seats, they sit on their parents laps and have free run of the bus and cabs. Not safe, but that's what they're used to. So when they get to America, they fight the restraints. Anyway, Susie brought us home. Aunt Barbara was waiting for us and Matthew was a bit shy. We came home to a wonderfully clean house and stocked fridge! Thanks Mom and Dad! Matthew is a bit afraid of Chester, our cat. He liked the rocking horse and seemed to like his room. Hi eyes were very big and round looking at everything. Sarah and Aunt Barbara made us a hugge Welcome home sign! Sarah is still staying with the grandparents because we were getting in so late. Around 10:45, we tried to put Matthew down to sleep. He proceeded to (and is still, at 12:37) screaming his head off! We tried laying next to his crib, we tried rocking him, we tried ignoring him. The ignoring him didn't work because he climbed right out of his crib and ran into our room! Now, Dave is in his room, trying to cajole Matthew to sleep. It's making for a very long, tiresome night!
