We are staying at the Forest Service campground 1 mile from Redstone. What a deal at half-price. $177 for 2 weeks stay.
Driving south on CO 133 from the campground in Redstone, we visited the town of Marble which is the site of the historic marble mill in which marble blocks were carved and then shipped throughout the country. Founded in 1905, the site was the location of a large marble processing mill. Many famous structures were constructed of this marble, including the Lincoln Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington Cemetery. The Marble Community Church was actually built in 1886 in Aspen and was dismantled and moved to Marble in 1908 and reassembled.
Steve went back to Marble the following day to two small lakes to do a little trout fishing. He brought home 3 beautiful rainbow trout. He returned a few days later and brought home 8 trout!
We’ve visited Glenwood Springs many times but this was the first year that we were able to attend the annual Strawberry Festival. There was lots of the usual arts and crafts fair stuff, along with a parade on Saturday morning, pie eating contests, 5K walk/run that I participated in on Sunday morning, followed by a pancake breakfast by the Rotary Club.
Of course, the most exciting thing to happen during our two weeks here was the birth of our grandson, Danilo on June 19 to Jovian and Vivi. He is so beautiful and looks a lot like Jovian. It is hard to leave – I just want to hold him and cuddle him all the time.
