Beautiful lakes of Ontario

August 9 – Sunday

A beautiful sunny day today with temperatures around 23 degrees – very nice to see the sun. We had a relaxing morning at our campsite. In the afternoon Heibners, Mulrooneys and Hilzs visited the Mennonite Heritage Village at Steinbach, MN. It was very interesting viewing the buildings from the sod, soil, grass and wood house built by the Mennonite immigrants in 1874, to the house & barn connected dwellings (the layout of which can be traced back to Prussia/Poland where the Mennonites settled from the 1500’s onwards), the churches, schools, blacksmith shop, printery and more. Many of the antique machinery and furnishings provided for a time of reminiscing of our younger years. The large village windmill is said to be the only one of its kind in Canada and the restored 1904 Reeves steamer was certainly a monster to behold.

A warm evening was great for visiting outside in our lawn chairs and planning for the next leg of our journey.

August 10 – Monday

Today started out sunny and has continued throughout the day reaching 24 degrees. Local people we talk to say this is the first sunny day they have had in a while. We sure hope it stays. The four BC RV’s pulled out of Arrowhead RV park at Ile Des Chenes at 0815 this morning, meeting up with Jim and Sandy when we stopped for lunch. It was a good drive of 465 kms along highway #1, into Ontario and to our campsite for the night at Davy Lake RV Campground at Ignace, Ontario. It wasn’t long after Winnipeg with its flat grain fields when the topography changed to trees, rocks, windy roads and then into the lakes and streams as we passed The Lake of The Woods area of Ontario. All along we see God’s awesome handiwork in the beautiful scenery.

We got to our campsite at 3:15 so had a nice time to relax and a chance for Sandy & Marian to take a dip in Davy Lake. The water was very clear and “refreshing” they said. The gorgeous evening also allowed us to have our supper together around the picnic table for the first time. We are praying this weather stays for a long time!!!
