| Last night we had a GREAT dinner! We were going to go to Pizza Hut, but several families were venturing out to an Italian Restaurant about 6 blocks from our hotel. We tagged along with them and had a great dinner! I had spiral pasta, sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese and scallions, all tossed in olive oil. Dave had a gigantic ham and cheese calzone. Matt had a huge plate of fried rice with pork and vegetables. We couldn't believe how much he ate! This morning we went to Shamien Island to go shopping. We bought several outfits, some Western style shirts for Matthew, some Chinese outfits for Matthew, David and Sarah. We bought squeaky shoes for Matthew. Sarah, we found you an adorable Panda Bear stuffed animal. There are other items, but it is a surprise!!! It is extremely hot here. I just walk outside and the sweat starts pouring down on me! I don't know why others are not as sweaty as I am! It's really gross! It may be because Matthew refuses to go to Dave and I've been holding him. However, today I put my foot down and told him he could walk or get carried by Daddy. He chose to walk. Anyway, when we got back on the bus, many people were so excited about the treasures they found at Shamien Island. This is a great place to bartar (am I spelling that right?) and we all did pretty well! Matthew fell asleep briefly on the the way back. We tried to put him down for a nap, yet he decided it would be more fun to throw his legs over the side of the crib for about 40 minutes. We gave up on him trying to take a nap. He has found this new game he likes to play with me. He will stand straight up and "free fall" into me - trusting that I will catch him. We call this "Timber!" and he just laughs and plays it over and over again. He also loves to chase after dogs. When we were at Shamien Island, there were several little doggies running around. He started to run after them. However, when we got very close to one dog, he started crying and was frightened of it. Matthew also gets very excited when we see any cars on the street. He points to them and screams something. If I am not looking at what he is talking about, he grabs my face and points it to where he is pointing! We had someone practice their English on us today. People just stop you and say, "Can I practice speaking to you?" So we let this young man talk to us about football and the NY Giants. When we were in Changsha, I had a man practice his English on me - he wanted to know if I knew Michael Jordan! This morning, while waiting for the bus, a lady was walking by me, looked at me and just started laughing! She kept laughing and pointing at me. I wanted to stick my tongue out at her, but I'm more sophisticated than that!!!! I am trying to leave Matthew alone more with Dave. It's very hard, though. He just screams the entire time I am gone. Dave has tried playing, coloring, feeding, etc., to no avail. I know things will change when we get home, but it is very heartbreaking. It's a good thing we got several good pictures in the beginning of the week with those two! People in the group think it's funny the way Matt just stops crying and screaming the moment I get near him. Something is wrong with the camera base. No pictures today until I can figure it out. Sorry! We love reading all the notes from home - keep them coming! We miss everyone! |
